The provincial Steering Committee for Sustainable Development has just held a consultation workshop to evaluate the implementation of sustainable development goal under the 2030 Agenda in the province.

Mr Vo Dinh Tien, Director of Department of Planning and Investment addressing at the workshop

On May 10th, 2017, the Prime Minister issued the Decision No.622/QD-TTg on promulgating the national action plan for the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda with a focus on 17 sustainable development goals. Departments, agencies and localities in the province preside over and coordinate in monitoring the implementation of sustainable development goals such as ending poverty in all its forms everywhere; ending hunger, achieving food security and improved nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture; promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all; developing urban and rural areas sustainably… The province has mobilized all resources to realize the set goals.

In recent years, the province has gained positive socio-eco achievements; effectively implementing the strategy of safe, flexible adaptation and effective control of COVID-19 epidemic. The average annual growth rate of gross regional domestic product (GRDP) is 6,78%. Sustainable development goals are implemented and integrated into most related fields and sectors of the 5-year plan period of 2016-2020; most of them have reached an important level, serving as a premise to achieve the sustainable development goals to 2030. In addition to achievements, Phu Yen has faced numerous challenges, namely: the province's economy is still small, budget revenues are low, expenditures exceed revenue, so it is difficult to be proactive in resources to implement the set goals.

At the workshop, participants discussed the role and coordination mechanism of stakeholders in the process of formulating and implementing sustainable development goals; sharing practical experiences in the process of collecting and analyzing statistics; summarizing new points of the revised Statistical Law related to sustainable development goals…

According to Mr Vo Dinh Tien, Director of the Department of Planning and Investment cum Deputy Director of the provincial Steering Committee for Sustainable Development, the workshop has great significance for the process of formulating and implementing the provincial sustainable development goals. Through the workshop, the Department of Planning and Investment expects departments, sectors and localities to accompany and contribute reports on the implementation of the provincial sustainable development goals towards the common goal of building and developing Phu Yen into one of the provinces and cities with sustainable development under the model of green growth and adaptation to climate change.
