Positive impression of foreign athletes and experts about Phu Yen

The 2025 Asian Women's Beach Volleyball Tournament of Cloud Gate Cup has ended. The pair of athletes from New Zealand Polley - MacDonald showed stability and superiority in both technique and tactics to win the championship in a worthy manner. However, the biggest highlight for the organizers is that they made efforts and left a good impression on the athletes from 10 countries and territories competing in Phu Yen province.

When Phu Yen was chosen the host of the 2025 Asian Women's Beach Volleyball Tournament, numerous concerns were seen. This is not a big city; the accommodation and service conditions for athletes from 10 countries and territories are still unknown; the field conditions and the competence to organize an Asian-class tournament have been questioned. However, people working in sports in Phu Yen province have shown impressive organizational ability and the remaining conditions are excellent.

“We will definitely return to this coastal area. Phu Yen's competition conditions are very good. The audience cheering at the stadium is very enthusiastic and always crowded. I asked the athletes and they responded that Phu Yen land was very impressive to them. I heard somewhere a funny saying, but it accurately reflects the tournament in Phu Yen: If you haven't been there, you don't know Phu Yen. Only after going will you know how wonderful Phu Yen is”, Mr. Le Hoang Son, Technical Supervisor of the Asian Volleyball Federation, affirmed.

The 2025 Asian Women's Beach Volleyball Tournament has received the attention and coordination of many units and businesses. According to the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, it is impossible not to mention the staff of the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center. In merely a short time, they made an Asian-class volleyball field for athletes to compete built.

“I know that the staff and leaders of the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center have made tireless efforts to conquer the referee supervisors of the Asian Volleyball Federation and the athletes. I am very impressed with these people. They are very responsible and make us feel secure,” said Mr. Pham Ngoc Son, Vice President of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation.

In addition to the exciting matches, the tournament organizers also cleverly arranged a schedule for the athletes to relax, unwind, explore Phu Yen land, and visit scenic spots in the land of yellow flowers and green grass, which helps not only the athletes recharge before important matches, but also the locality promote its unique cultural and tourism features, opening up development opportunities in the future.

The 2025 Cloud Gate Cup Asian Women's Beach Volleyball Tournament attracted 22 teams from 10 countries and territories. The teams are divided into 8 groups to compete to select the best representatives to enter the next round. The tournament has 40 matches for the athletes to show their talents.

The host Vietnam has 4 participating teams, including 8 core athletes of the national team preparing to compete in the 33rd SEA Games. The tournament in Phu Yen is an opportunity for Vietnamese athletes to evaluate their abilities, accumulate experience, and compete with the athletes of international level.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh, Head of Beach Volleyball Department (Vietnam Volleyball Federation), the tournament in Phu Yen province has continental prestige and is one of the six official volleyball tournaments in the system of the Asian Volleyball Federation in 2025. In addition to the high prize money, excellent athletes also earn points to register to participate in the next tournaments. Therefore, the quality of athletes is practically high.

“Through the matches at the tournament, it can be seen that Vietnamese athletes cannot compare with other teams. Technically, they may not be far behind, but mentality and composure in decisive situations are factors that Vietnamese athletes do not have. I think that after the tournament, the Vietnamese beach volleyball team will have assessments and adjustments to help Vietnamese beach volleyball win medals at the 33rd SEA Games held in Thailand. Compared to the tournament in Can Tho city in 2019, this tournament has higher professional quality and attracts more cheering spectators,” said Mr. Binh.
