To promote the potential and develop sustainable fruit trees, the Provincial Agriculture sector has been implementing numerous solutions, expanding the planned area, aiming to improve the quality and value of products.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in 2021, after the Project on building fruit growing areas associated with commodity processing and product branding (referred to as the Project) was approved by the Provincial People's Committee, many localities in the province have proactively expanded the planned area in each region, suitable for each type of fruit tree; at the same time, promoting mechanization of production, application of science and technology, pest control in the process of planting, caring for and harvesting.
Up to now, the whole province has had more than 6,907 hectares of fruit trees, with an estimated output of over 53,412 tons/year. In particular, accounting for nearly 2,000 hectares is the area of perennial fruit trees with high economic value such as: durian, jackfruit, avocado, mango, custard apple, orange, grapefruit, guava, lychee, longan, pineapple, etc. grown in districts with fertile red basalt soil such as Song Hinh, Tay Hoa, Son Hoa, and a few in Phu Hoa and Dong Xuan.
For example, in Song Hinh district, around the past 5 to 7 years, with the guidance, mobilization and encouragement of the Party Committee and authorities, many households have actively learned from the experiences of fruit growers inside and outside the province, gradually switching to growing trees with high economic value; especially durian.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the district, said: In order for fruit trees to develop sustainably and increasingly increase their value in the market, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has consulted with the District People's Committee to invest in infrastructure construction, detailed planning of planting areas, building many models of crops with high economic value; supporting people to produce organically to become OCOP products of the district; at the same time, organizing scientific and technical training on safe fruit tree production. So far, the district has built many models of growing fruit trees with high economic value on a total area of nearly 2,000 hectares, with an output of more than 20,000 tons/year.
To focus on developing the area ofhigh-quality fruit trees, the Agriculture sector has proactively coordinated with departments to implement the tasks of the Project;specifically, building a policy to support fruit tree planting (Resolution 15 of the Provincial People's Council and Decision 1202 of the Provincial People's Committee); inspecting, granting and monitoring to growing area codes; supporting the building of brands, collective trademarks, geographical indications of products, etc.
According to Ms. Dang Thi Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the potential for fruit trees in the province is huge. For fruit trees to develop sustainably and revive the potential of fruit trees, it is necessary to have a connection to form concentrated production areas in the form of cooperatives, cooperative groups and professional branches and associations. There must be consensus from the “4 objects”, in which the State and scientists play an important role in planning specialized areas, providing technical guidance to farmers on which fruit trees are suitable, and how to preserve them properly to increase the rate of fruit tree products that meet good standards;at the same time, supporting businesses with information and funding in trade promotion and brand building to fully exploit existing strengths.
“In the coming time, the Agriculture sector will continue to promote and encourage farmers to renovate mixed gardens and gardens with low economic efficiency, guide farmers to monitor and promptly prevent and control diseases in fruit orchards; promote and guide farmers on intensive farming measures, increase quality and production efficiency for the province's main fruit trees,” Ms. Thuy added.
