Phu Yen - a land that was once the focus of many fierce battles, almost fell into a state of desolation and backwardness. But only half a century later, the province has risen to develop with a new look, making an important contribution to the overall renovation of the whole country.

Novel and spacious appearance
In 1975, after the Vietnam War ended, Phu Yen province was heavily affected by the devastation of the conflict. Infrastructure was severely degraded; a series of roads, bridges, factories and public works were destroyed. However, with the efforts, joint endeavors and consensus of all levels, sectors, localities and people in the province, Phu Yen has risen to become one of the provinces with developed infrastructure.
With the goal of turning Phu Yen into the socio-economic regional center, during the recent decades, the State has invested significant resources in building and improving infrastructure. A series of key projects have been built, from a smooth traffic system to high-class industrial parks and tourist areas.
The National Highway 1, the main traffic route of the North - South, has been invested in upgrading, along with Deo Ca and Cu Mong road tunnel systems, which has opened up the door to trade in the North and South of the province. The North - South Expressway is gradually being completed. The inter-provincial and intra-provincial road systems have also been invested in synchronously, connecting localities in the province more and more effectively. In particular, Tuy Hoa airport and Vung Ro seaport not only strengthen regional connectivity, but also contribute to promoting the development of key economic sectors such as tourism and logistics.
Additionally, Phu Yen province has also focused on investing in modern industrial parks, with synchronous technical infrastructure, to attract investment capital and promote industrialization. The province has established a number of industrial parks concentrated in Hoa Hiep Trung, An Phu, Northwest of Song Cau, a high-tech agricultural zone and a number of industrial and handicraft areas in localities. Infrastructure for irrigation, electricity, water, and telecommunications has been invested in quite synchronously. The national target program on new rural construction implemented in the area has contributed to significantly changing the appearance of the countryside, improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
According to Mr. Tran Xuan Tuc, Director of the Department of Construction, the province's infrastructure has been gradually upgraded. The urbanization rate has been accelerated. Tuy Hoa town has become a city - a type II urban area. Song Cau and Dong Hoa districts have become towns and most of the district towns have been expanded and modernized. Recently built projects in the provincial center such as Hung Vuong bridge, Tuy Hoa Sea Park, Ho Son Park, April 1 Square, Nghinh Phong Tower Square, etc. have opened up modern spaces, creating urban highlights, attracting people and tourists.
Economic structure shifting in the right direction
From a province mainly based on agriculture, Phu Yen has been gradually changing, increasing the proportion of industry and services; contributing to the economic restructuring towards industrialization and modernization. In the economic structure of the province, the agricultural sector still plays an important role, but the proportion has gradually decreased in the recent years. If in the past, agriculture accounted for 40% of the province's GDP, now this figure is only about 25%. Typically, in 2024, statistics on the structure of total products (at current prices) show that: agriculture - forestry - fishery accounts for 23.59%, industry - construction accounts for 29.29%, services account for 42.83%, product taxes minus product subsidies account for 4.29%.
The commercial service industry has developed strongly with the participation of all economic sectors, the quality of services has been improved. According to Mr. Dao My, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, tourism has been becoming a key economic sector of the province, the number of tourists has been increasing rapidly. In 2024, the number of visitors visiting Phu Yen reached more than 4 million turns, with revenue of more than VND 8,000 billion, completing the target of the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress assigned 1 year in advance.
The shift in Phu Yen's economic structure is also accompanied by a shift in the labor structure. While previously, most of the labor force was concentrated in the agricultural sector, now the number of laborers in industry and services is increasing, which helps to improve labor productivity, increase people's income, and contribute to sustainable economic growth. In 2024, GRDP per capita reached VND 70.7 million, an increase of 8.37% compared to 2023.

During the recent years, Phu Yen has been affirming its position as an attractive destination, ready to enter a new era. The province has made significant breakthroughs in attracting investment, export turnover, and industrial production value. Incentive policies, synchronous infrastructure, along with advantages in geographical location and natural resources have assisted helped Phu Yen to become increasingly attractive to domestic and foreign investors.
Phu Yen province has been focusing on attracting investment in the fields of agriculture; industry; trade, tourism - services and infrastructure. Accordingly, the province continues to build the Phu Yen tourism brand as a green, clean, safe, attractive, and friendly destination; one of the important links in the tourism development linkage among the Central Highlands provinces and the South Central Coast region. In the agricultural sector, the province aims to develop specialty agriculture, organic agriculture, and high-tech agriculture. In the industrial sector, the province focuses on attracting investment to develop high-tech industry, clean industry, and high added value. In particular, South Phu Yen Economic Zone located in the marine economic corridor is one of the bright spots in attracting investment, creating a spillover effect to promote the development in the coastal strip.
Head of South Phu Yen Economic Zone Management Board, Mr. Huynh Lu Tan said: Implementing the resolutions of the Provincial Party Committee and the action program of the Provincial People's Committee, the unit is focusing on accelerating the progress of breakthrough projects with spillover effects of registered investors such as: Bai Goc deep-water port, Hoa Tam Industrial Park, High-tech Industrial Park, etc. In addition, the management board also coordinates with related units to promote investment attraction in the direction of approaching partners, large investors, potential investors, and branded investors to research investment in dynamic projects, creating a breakthrough for growth.
