Phu Yen armed forces maturing under the glorious flag of the Party

Exactly 80 years ago, on June 12, 1945, in Hoa Da hamlet (An My commune, Tuy An district), the Provisional Provincial Party Committee held a historic meeting to prepare for the general uprising to seize power and to unify the leadership structure of the provincial armed forces. This marked the beginning of a glorious and heroic chapter in the history of the people and armed forces of Phu Yen. Since then, June 12 has been commemorated annually as the Traditional Day of the province’s armed forces.

Phu Yen - a land rich in revolutionary tradition, strategically located in terms of national defense and security. It is also a key area frequently affected by natural disasters and targeted by hostile forces. From the early days of the resistance war against the French, the provincial armed forces, together with the military and people across the country, contributed to numerous resounding victories, such as defeating the Atlante Campaign, leading the Hoa Thinh Uprising, rescuing lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho, opening the Vung Ro port to receive the legendary “No Number” ships, and most notably, securing the historic Victory on Route 5 and the liberation of Phu Yen Province on April 1, 1975.

Entering the period of national renewal, the armed forces of Phu Yen have continued to uphold their heroic traditions, maintaining strong political resolve and achieving comprehensive development in all aspects. Under the absolute and direct leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, the PPC, and the Party Committee and Command of Military Region 5, the provincial armed forces have effectively fulfilled their advisory role in building a robust all-people national defense posture closely linked with the people’s security posture, thereby contributing to a stable environment for socio-eco development.

During the 2020-2025 term, provincial armed forces have consistently fulfilled their annual military recruitment and military enrollment tasks, as well as training missions across all forces, in line with planned programs. The results have been impressive, with the rate of good and excellent performance increasing by 1.2% to over 7% compared to the previous term. Training and exercise infrastructure has been systematically planned and substantially invested in. Notably, one provincial-level shooting range, eight out of nine district-level ranges, ten commune-level shooting range clusters, and one regiment-level range have been newly constructed. Agencies and units have effectively implemented the three key breakthroughs outlined in the Resolution of the 8th Party Congress of the Provincial Military Command. These focus areas include: enhancing the quality of training, political education, and exercises; strengthening standardization and discipline; and improving the leadership capacity of Party committees and cells.

Alongside its training and combat readiness duties, provincial armed forces have taken the lead in patriotic emulation movements and grassroots cultural development. The forces have actively engaged in civic outreach through various effective models, such as the “Spring of Solidarity - Warm Military - Civilian Tet” program. They have also partnered to organize free medical check-ups, treatment, and medicine distribution, while providing gifts to policy beneficiaries, war veterans, and underprivileged communities with total funding exceeding 4 billion VND. The image of the “Uncle Hồ’s Soldiers” always devoted to serving the people has become increasingly ingrained in the hearts of the local population.

With remarkable achievements over the past 80 years, the people and armed forces of Phu Yen Province have been honored by the Party and State with prestigious awards, including the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, First-, Second-, and Third-Class Fatherland Defense Orders, among many other noble distinctions. These honors serve as well-deserved recognition of the armed forces’ indomitable fighting spirit, their deep bond with the people, and their significant contributions to the revolutionary cause.

Focusing on the implementation of 5 key tasks.

In the new phase, in order to continue promoting its proud tradition, the armed forces of Phu Yen Province have identified the following key tasks for focused and effective implementation:

First, strengthen the absolute and comprehensive leadership of the Party over the provincial armed forces. Continue building a clean and strong Party organization, enhance the quality of political and ideological education, and reinforce the political will and steadfastness of officers and soldiers in all circumstances.

Second, promote the core role of the provincial armed forces in grasping, forecasting, and effectively handling various situations; provide strong advisory support in building solid defense zones, especially in coastal areas and regions inhabited by ethnic minorities.

Third, continue building the provincial armed forces in a streamlined, compact, and strong manner, with a focus on developing a robust and widespread militia and self-defense force. Simultaneously, strengthen the reserve force to ensure it is well-trained, substantial, and of high quality to meet the demands of tasks in the new context.

Fourth, actively safeguard the ideological foundation of the Party. Proactively counter false and hostile viewpoints; strengthen communication and public information efforts; build a core force to engage in online ideological struggle; and apply IT to enhance the effectiveness of the struggle.

Fifth, improve the quality of mass mobilization work, contributing to building a strong “people’s defense posture.” Organize various concrete and practical grassroots-oriented activities; closely coordinate with relevant sectors and mass organizations to support people in economic development, disaster recovery, and caring for policy beneficiaries and disadvantaged groups.

Over the glorious 80 years, the Military and Militia Forces of Phu Yen province have written heroic chapters that have enriched the revolutionary tradition of the homeland. Building on this precious legacy, the provincial forces continue to be a loyal and reliable force of the Party, the government, and the people of the province, contributing to the firm construction and defense of the Fatherland in the new era.
