On this occasion, Phu Yen Newspaper interviewed Mr. Pham Doan Anh Kiet, Executive Vice President of the Provincial Journalists Association, on related issues.

* Could you briefly describe the history of Phu Yen revolutionary press?

- 100 years ago, on June 21st, 1925, leader Nguyen Ai Quoc founded Thanh Nien Newspaper - the predecessor newspaper that paved the way for the development of Vietnam's revolutionary press. Since then, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has been developing continuously, effectively serving the resistance war against foreign invaders as well as the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. Proud of the Vietnamese revolutionary press for a century, we take great pride in the Phu Yen press with 79 years of formation and development. After the August Revolution in 1945, poet Vinh Mai (Nguyen Hoang), Head of the Information and Propaganda Department of Phu Yen province, directed to publish a special issue to celebrate the National Day on September 2nd and a special issue “Winter Soldiers” to encourage cadres and soldiers to go south and stop in Phu Yen land. These are considered the first two revolutionary press products of Phu Yen province.

In February 1946, poet Vinh Mai was transferred by the Central Region Party Committee to become Secretary of the Hue City Party Committee; teacher Bui Xuan Cac, Head of the Censorship Department and Daily Distribution Board of the Central Region Information and Propaganda Department, was sent to Phu Yen province to replace poet Vinh Mai. Teacher Bui Xuan Cac directly directed and was the editor-in-chief of the Chien Thang Newspaper - the first issue was published on August 19th, 1946, which was the official newspaper of Phu Yen Provincial Party Committee after the August Revolution.

Since 1946, the Phu Yen Provincial Party Committee has directly led, directed and managed many newspapers such as: Chien Thang Newspaper (1946), Cuu Quoc Khu VI Newspaper (1947), Phan Dau Newspaper (1948), Suc Moi Newspaper (1952-1954). In addition, during the 9 years of resistance against the French, in Phu Yen province there were also newspapers: Hon Tre, Sang Tac Nong Thon of the Phu Yen Literature and Arts Association, edited by writer Ngo Tinh Ha (younger brother of poet Xuan Dieu); Chi Trai of the 80-83 Regiment; Cong Doan of of the Provincial Federation of Trade Unions; Cong Ly of the Provincial People's Court; Canh Ve of the Provincial Police; Tre of the Provincial Youth Union for National Salvation.

Phu Yen revolutionary press in the period 1946-1975 with newspapers: Doan Ket Newspaper (1956-1960), Giai Phong Newspaper (1961-1974), Phu Yen Giai Phong Newspaper (April 1st, 1975-November 3rd, 1975). From November 3rd, 1975 to April 30th, 1989, Phu Yen Giai Phong Newspaper changed its name to Phu Khanh Newspaper and in Phu Khanh province, there were Phu Khanh Literature and Arts Magazine, Phu Khanh Radio Station, Phu Khanh Television Station.

Phu Yen revolutionary press in the period after the province's separation on July 1st, 1989 to present, there have been Phu Yen Newspaper, Phu Yen People's Voice Radio, Phu Yen Television Station, Phu Yen Radio and Television Station (2012), Phu Yen Literature and Arts Magazine, Knowledge Magazine (2008-2020), Science Magazine (2012 to present), etc. It is truly sharp weapons actively serving the struggle for national independence, national unification and in the process of building the province.

During the recent years, to keep pace with the flow of modern journalism, Phu Yen press has had remarkable development in both quantity and quality, actively and effectively contributing to the cause of building and protecting the homeland and the country.

* With the mission of contributing to creating a professional and modern press environment and nurturing and training a team of journalists who are “both red and professional”, how has the Provincial Journalists Association innovated its content and methods of operation in recent times, sir?

- After Phu Yen province was re-established, on August 10th, 1989, the Standing Board of the Provincial Party Committee issued Decision 23-QD/TU to establish the Phu Yen Journalists Association. Entering its 36th year, through 6 congresses, Phu Yen Journalists Association, from the beginning with only about 18 journalist members from 3 units: Phu Yen Provincial People's Voice Radio Station, Phu Yen Provincial Television Station and Phu Yen Newspaper on the re-establishment of the province, has now increased to 145 journalist members, operating in 4 branches and 2 affiliated clubs.

Inheriting and promoting the tradition of Vietnam's revolutionary press, the Phu Yen Journalists Association has focused on widely propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; encouraging and motivating patriotic emulation movements; propagating socio-economic development, maintaining national defense and security; proactively fighting against plots and sabotage activities of hostile forces.

Implementing Directive 43-CT/TW dated April 8th, 2020 of the Central Party Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership over the activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association in the new situation, during the recent years, the Provincial Journalists Association has focused on building the association's organization, strengthening political and ideological education to raise political awareness for members. The Association has strengthened education and training of revolutionary qualities and ethics, promoted studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics and style in conjunction with implementing the 2016 Press Law, 10 articles regulating the ethics of Vietnamese journalists and the Rules for using social networks of Vietnamese journalists. Along with that, the association constantly innovates professional activities, actively and proactively trains and fosters to improve the political level, professional skills, and journalism skills of its members, contributing to building a team of journalists with strong political qualities, high professional qualifications, and a sense of responsibility in their work, meeting the development requirements of the Vietnamese revolutionary press.

* To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, what activities will the Provincial Journalists Association organize and participate in to create a vibrant atmosphere among the team of journalists, sir?

- To celebrate the historical milestone of 100 years of formation and development of Vietnam revolutionary press, the Provincial Journalists Association has organized and will organize and participate in many meaningful activities such as: Social security program, gratitude to retired journalists who are former leaders of the provincial press agencies, support for reporters, members, and workers of press agencies in difficult circumstances; The 2nd Provincial Press Sports Festival - 2025; The expanded Central Highlands Press Sports Festival; returning to the source and reporting to Uncle Ho at Uncle Ho's Temple (Son Dinh commune, Son Hoa district); returning to the source at ATK Thai Nguyen, visiting Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School, Viet Bac - Tan Trao resistance base (Tuyen Quang); program to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, summarizing and awarding provincial press awards; participating in the exhibition of Pride in Phu Yen Press at the National Press Festival to be held from June 19th to 21st in Hanoi, etc.

The above activities are not only an opportunity to take pride in the glorious journey of the press, but also a profound reminder of the noble mission of writers. This will be a strong motivation, encouraging journalists to continue to promote the good tradition, worthy of being the voice of the people, a trustworthy companion in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
