The sea and islands are sacred parts of the homeland's territory and hold an extremely important strategic position. In the mission of safeguarding sovereignty and security along the borders and maritime territories, alongside the role of the armed forces, women also play a significant role.

In Phu Yen, the coordination program between the Provincial Women's Union and the Provincial Border Guard Command has yielded many positive results. It has contributed to raising awareness, enhancing the role of women, and leveraging community strength in safeguarding the sacred maritime sovereignty of the nation.
Given the province's coastal characteristics, all levels of the Women's Union have identified a key responsibility: raising awareness among their members, particularly women in coastal communes and wards, about the significance, role, and importance of Vietnam's seas and islands in socio-eco development and national sovereignty protection. Provincial Women's Union Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Lien stated that in implementing the coordination program, the Women's Union and the Provincial Border Guard Command have carried out various awareness-raising activities. These initiatives aim to enhance the understanding of women and coastal communities regarding the Party and State’s policies on maritime sovereignty protection, promote patriotic traditions, and uphold the defense of the nation’s sacred sea and island borders. These activities are closely linked to patriotic emulation movements such as "Women Actively Study, Work Creatively, and Build Happy Families," the New Rural Development program, and the campaign "The Entire Population Unites to Build a Cultured Life".
Major Tran Van Tu, Politician of Xuan Dai Border Guard Station, shared: Based on the coordination program between the Provincial Women's Union and the Provincial Border Guard Command, Xuan Dai Border Guard Station has proactively collaborated with the Women's Union of Song Cau Town and Women's Unions of wards and communes in the area to organize 17 legal propaganda sessions for more than 1,830 village officials, union members, women, and local residents.
"Furthermore, we also coordinate in raising awareness about the schemes and tactics of hostile forces to help people stay vigilant, promptly detect and report crimes, and prevent malicious actors from inciting divisions between the military and the people or among ethnic groups. We also conduct propaganda efforts to encourage families to support their children in fulfilling their military service obligations in accordance with the Law on Military Service", Major Tran Van Tu added.
Phu Yen has 25 communes and wards in the coastal border area, comprising 141 villages and neighborhoods stretching from Cù Mông to Vũng Rô. Although the Party and the State have made efforts to promote socio-eco development in these areas over the years, the living conditions of local residents, particularly women and children, remain challenging.
Implementing the coordination program Mobilizing Women to Participate in Building and Protecting Territorial Sovereignty, Border, and Maritime Security for the 2023-2025 Period and the Sisterhood Model Between District-Level Women's Unions and Border Guard Stations for the 2020-2025 Period, the units have annually collaborated to organize various activities, including environmental protection initiatives and cultural and artistic exchanges, etc. Many meaningful social welfare programs aimed at improving the lives of people in the sister localities have been organized and maintained, such as "Spring at the Border – Warmth for the People", "Companion with Border Women", "Mid-Autumn Festival Night", "Connecting Love", "Green Chung Cake – Golden Heart", "Zero-Dollar Stall – Deep Military-Civilian Bonds", and "Godmothers", etc.
Thereby, 560 gift packages were distributed to disadvantaged women, women with family members engaged in offshore fishing, border guard families facing hardships, and children of fishermen who have excelled in their studies, with a total value of over 300 million VND. Notable contributors to this initiative include Xuan Hoa Border Guard Station in partnership with the Dong Xuan District Women's Union; Song Hinh District Women's Union in collaboration with Vung Ro Port Border Guard Station; and the Song Cau Town Women's Union working with Xuan Hoa and Xuan Dai Border Guard Stations.
