Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea - Special National Relic

Previously, on November 26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Decision 1473/QD-TTg to rank the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea as a Special National Relic.

The Certificate of ranking of the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea as a Special National Relic was granted to the following localities: Hai Phong City (departure wharf) and the provinces of Phu Yen (Vũng Rô), Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Ca Mau (opening wharf).

The Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea is one of the outstanding inventions of our Party and President Ho Chi Minh in the resistance war against the US, saving the country. "Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea" is the name of the military transport route secretly implemented by the Vietnam People's Navy and the Liberation Army of South Vietnam on the East Sea during the war, to transport weapons and cadres from the North to support the Liberation Army of the South, in the resistance war against the US.

In order to promptly support the battlefields, meet the development requirements of the Southern revolution, after researching, testing, drawing experience and preparing in all aspects, on October 23, 1961, the General Command decided to establish Military Transport Group 759 (the predecessor of today's 125th Naval Brigade), opening a strategic transport route - the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea.

For 14 consecutive years (from 1961 until the historic victory day of April 30, 1975), the No-number ships created the legendary road - the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea, creating an extremely important strategic supply route. The Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea is not only a legend, a miracle but also a unique creation of the People's war in the Ho Chi Minh era, and has become an immortal heroic epic.

In Phu Yen, Vũng Rô Wharf is a milestone among the 5 docks of the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea. Vũng Rô is an important wharf in the Central region to receive ships supplying weapons from the North to the battlefields of Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Dak Lak provinces.

Vũng Rô Wharf received the first No-number ship on the night of November 28, 1964, commanded by Captain Ho Dac Thanh, a native of Phu Yen. Here, from November 1964 to February 1965, there were 4 No-number ships docking, of which 3 were commanded by Captain Ho Dac Thanh and successfully docked, carrying about 200 tons of weapons and supplies to the battlefield.

From this timely support, in Phu Yen by early 1965, we had equipped enough weapons for combat units, winning numerous decisive victories on the battlefield, typically the victory at Thi Thung Tunnel in 1966; the general offensive and uprising in the Spring of Mau Than in 1968; the historic victory of Route 5, together with the main force liberating Phu Yen province on April 1, 1975, contributing with the Army and People of the whole country to completely liberate the South and unify the country.

In 1997, Vũng Rô became a National Historical Relic; by 2001, the Vũng Rô Wharf Relic Stela was built; after that, Vũng Rô Memorial was completed to forever mark a heroic event in the history of national war.
